To get more engagement on Instagram, find influencers who are already engaging with your target audience and partner with them on various campaigns. Some campaign types include:
account takeover, and
Importantly , finding someone who is just a well-known celebrity will no longer be useful. Social media users, especially those of Gen Y and Z, are wary of celebrity influencers.
Instead, peer-to-peer recommendations are king, and influence is now measured by originals and true creators within the realm of knowledge. For example, a lesser known chess championwith 5,000 followers would be more influential than a pop star like Justin Bieber if you were selling a chess board.
So, look for micro-influencers (less than 100,000 followers on Instagram), then vet them using an influencer marketing platform that is specific to your audience demographics to show how engaged you are with your target follower types.
Make sure to measure ROI against important metrics such as cost per engagement, media value, and interactions with your target audience. Automated tools can help you scale up the products that work for your brand!

My "secret" to increasing Instagram engagement is to reach the ideal audience on your profile first! Most people employ follow/unfollow techniques, which can increase your follower count but not your engagement. So how do you get the ideal audience who will like and comment on your page and increase overall engagement?
Make a list of competing Instagram accounts with profiles very similar to the type of account you are trying to add.
Every day click into one of the competitors on the list, then click on the latest post (which should be relevant to the type of post you make). Go to the comments section of that post and start following people who commented on it. After doing this, start following people who also liked the post. (Avoid focusing only on its followers, but only on engaged audiences)
Be careful not to follow thousands per day as Instagram does have a limit (usually 20-30 per hour) and don't unfollow these accounts right away. (wait a few days)
Watch likes, comments and followers.
This strategy works because you attract the attention of an audience that is not only interested in your content, but is already interested in your content. I've used this tactic several times to grow accounts with thousands of followers with engagement rates of 20% or more.
